  • Marketing blog challenge – week four

Filed under: Marketing blog challenge by Sasha on January 28, 2007

So here we are, four weeks have passed since I have started marketing blog challenge. During this time I learned many things about SEO and blog marketing but there are many more things to learn, that is for sure. I also found people who were nice enough to help me out with their advices and some of them found me. Thank you guys for all your help, you know who you are.

So what’s up with the marketing blog challenge? Nothing special, I’m still not in top 1000 for a key phrase marketing blog but I got to page one for marketing blog challenge after being on page three and two for a long time. Currently I’m number eight but I still think that I deserve position number one since marketing blog challenge is my challenge… I believe that eventually my marketing blog will get to number one and I would be happy if it happens in the next three months.

I also wish to be in top 1000 for the term marketing blog in the next three months but we will see. Right now I don’t have enough links to compete with older sites (domains) so I will have to work on link building a lot. Since I have only a couple of real links (non forums) it is no surprise that I’m still not in top 1000 but my marketing blog will get there one day.

I almost forgot, this marketing blog got a PR2 couple of days ago. I don’t care about PR too much but it is nice to see something green in Google toolbar. I don’t sell links so PR doesn’t matter much to me, maybe one day it will, who knows…

Yesterday somebody told me that my marketing blog looks very weird in IE6 and it surely does, I will have to correct that. Maybe I will put another theme soon; I’m not sure about that yet.

Well, my marketing blog challenge is moving on to week five, I don’t expect anything big but as they say, every link helps so let’s start link building campaign.

    Thank you for your time.

    Marketing blog problem

Filed under: Problems by Sasha on January 25, 2007

Last few days I have a problem with writing content. I just can’t seem to find any good subjects to write about. Maybe it is the lack of free time that prevents me from writing or maybe I’m just too lazy these days, I’m not sure.

If you think about it, writing about one single topic can be really hard. In my case writing only about blog marketing is really hard. I know that I write about marketing in general and search engine marketing, not only blog marketing but these subjects are related so I think about them as one.

Optimizing your content for certain keywords (marketing blog in my case) is another thing that keeps you away from writing because you get the feeling that everything you write looks like something you have written before…

I hope that I will find something good to write about tomorrow.

    Thank you for your time.

p.s. I’m still mad at Google for not being number one for the term marketing blog challenge but at least I got from page three (21-30) to page two and now I’m at position 17, it is not good but it is certainly better than before.

    Adsense on a marketing blog?

Filed under: Adsense by Sasha on January 21, 2007

There was a time when I wanted to make money online by doing nothing. I was young back then and I didn’t know that you have to work to earn money or anything else. When I got interested in the online business world Adsense was one of the first things that got my attention. It looked like you just have to create a simple website and the money will come to you. Actually you could do just that but your website must be more then a simple MFA site, it has to be something that people would like to visit.

This introduction is a result of a couple conversations I had with my friends. Some of them asked me why I don’t put ads on my marketing blog. Those of you who have been in the online marketing world for a while know that putting ads on a web site or a blog which doesn’t have enough visitors scares people away. Werebu as a marketing blog was created with other plans in then making money with Adsense.

First of all, I would like to be sure that I don’t fail my marketing blog challenge so it would be stupid to waste my time dealing with ads and the money they could bring. The second thing that prevents me in putting ads is that I want to offer my SEO services some time in the future and I think that the web sites who offer services shouldn’t have (too many) ads… I don’t think that future clients would like to see ads all over the place.

The last reasons why there are no ads was already mentioned and that is scaring people away. I want people to read my marketing blog, I want to associate this blog with the term marketing blog so when somebody asks you what marketing blogs you know, your answer will be: werebu.com!

I believe that some of my friends will now understand why there are no ads here just yet.

    Thank you for your time.

Marketing blog challenge – week three

Filed under: Marketing blog challenge by Sasha on January 20, 2007

Reading my previous post I’ve noticed that I didn’t post “Marketing blog challenge – week two” and I apologies for that. The best excuse that I could find for myself is the fact that there were no major updates to write about. To be honest nothing revolutionary happened yet but I thought it should be good to write an update on my Marketing Blog Challenge since I promised weekly updates.

Looking through top 1000 results in Google for the term marketing blog I’ve realized that David’s post about my marketing blog challenge reached the position number 182 while his homepage got up to position 386. Since David’s post about my marketing blog challenge has only a link from his homepage I am wondering what would happen if David gave me a homepage link with the anchor text “Marketing Blog”…. I guess I’m not that lucky to find out.

I also noticed that there are sites that don’t deserve to be in top 1000 but they are, mostly because they are old and not because they have too much to do with blog marketing or the term marketing blog itself.

Some of these sites (many of them) have words like marketing, blog, marketing blog etc. in their URL so I guess it helps them to rank where they rank. There are a couple of marketingblog.TLD domain names and I guess it will be hard to beat them once I get into top 1000. Also, there are a couple of subdomain.wordpress.org sites that are in top 1000 but I think I can optimize my marketing blog better then they did theirs.

Where is my marketing blog in this story? It is still nowhere but I feel good about my marketing blog challenge since Googlebot comes over 10 times per day and I get reindexed almost every day. The weakest points of my marketing blog are surely links. I don’t have enough incoming links and I should really start working on link building if I want to succeed in my marketing blog challenge.

I think that this is it for today’s marketing blog challenge update.

    Thank you for your time.
