I believe that many of you have read this line before. Seth Godin quoted it in his “Purple Cow”, the book which I’m reading right now and which gave me an inspiration for this post.
SEO is now an industry, a big industry indeed. A lot of money, a lot of work and a lot of competition. Yes, a lot of competition. A lot. I believe that there is no market today that is not saturated with at least 20 products which help you in one way or another. SEO itself is a great example, how many SEO companies are there now? How many of them could you find 15 years ago? The market got saturated, it is a fact.
How to create purple SEO cow?
Your are new, you know how to do seo, you have optimized a couple of sites and you have great results. Now you want to start your seo company, how can you do it? Legal parts of starting a company are not important, what is important is how to market yourself between thousands of other seo companies?
The solution
Call your company “Pruple Cow SEO” :). Ok, I’m kidding. First thing that comes to mind when marketing a SEO company is to do SEO for it. Wait, didn’t you say that the market is too saturated? I’m glad that you paid attention. Market is too saturated to do plain old SEO even though it is the only thing your company does.
In order to stand out give you clients something that they want, free tools, widgets, applications. Build a blog. Give stuff for free. Connect with bloggers.
Bloggers can help you a lot. By connecting I don’t mean buying links/reviews but be friends, post about each other.
The ultimate solution
You and your team could be insane enough to name your company something like “Purple Cow SEO”. If you do then dress up in purple suits and go to every conference you can afford. I bet that will get you word of mouth advertising and many many backlinks. You don’t believe me? Try it

I agree that often times SEO is mishandled inhouse by the company. But outsourcing seo can be scary as well.

I was actually focusing on starting a seo company not outsourcing.
